The Mercinaries are much like the Independents in that they are not a group. However, they are the characters in the T&T Universe that do what they do because they get paid to do it.
Some of them will fight along side a Team, provided they still get paid their full amount. But most of them work strictly on a solo basis.
None the less, they are still a very important part of the T&T Universe.
